Notes for Abraham T. TILTON
1. Abraham T. TILTON was born in NH around 1790 and died in Norridgewock, Somerset County, Maine, after 1860. He was enumerated in the US Census for Norridgewock (15 miles northwest of Waterville, and 30 miles north of Agusta, ME) in 1830, 1840, 1850, and 1860. Wm. Henry Tilton said that his father, Abraham T. Tilton, was Captain of a local Maine Militia Company during the War of 1812, but his command was never called outside of the state of Maine, where he and his first wife, Sarah BIXBY, continued to live until their deaths. Vital records and census returns indicate that Sarah Bixby Tilton died at some time after the birth of Wm. H. Tilton in 1826 and prior to 1838. Abraham may have married his second wife, Lucy, around 1838, and their first child was born in 1839.
