Amos Cook was b. 1/1816-1817 in Somerset Co. ME and at about age 20, left for the "west". By 1838, he was in Peoria (Peoria Co.) IL. From there he migrated across the plains to Oregon, arriving in OR in 4/1839. He settled in Yamhill Co., OR and in 1853, he married Mary Frances Scott. She was b. 1833 in Tazewell Co., IL, d/o John Tucker Scott & Ann Roelofson. The Scott family migrated from Pekin, Tazewell Co., IL to Oregon in 1852, arriving in Yamhill Co., OR in 1853. John Tucker Scott & his family managed The Temperence House (Hotel), owned by Amos Cook and the marriage of Amos & Mary Frances (Fannie) took place in August 1853. If anyone has connections or information about this family, in particular the names and ancestry of Amos Cook's father, purported to be Thomas Cook & Lucy Pease, married about 1815 in Somerset Co., ME, please contact me.
