Connie,
I have very little to go on. Family lore has it that Charles Richardson Whitman fought in the Civil War, went AWOL and then, when he was about to be caught, reenlisted as Charles Richardson. (He is said to have received a pension under the name of Charles Richardson.) He had 3 children that I know of. One was Charles Henry Whitman who married Florence Lavinia (Wyman), widow of Ed? Ladd in 1900. I believe they lived in the Livermore area and possibly Charles Henry had been a laborer on the Ladd farm. I can find no trace of the other 2, Ed Lott and Corgie. All three children were bound out after their mother died and even though I think Charles Richardson remarried, he never took the children back.
Maine census indeces show a Charles R. Whitman in Chesterville, Franklin County in 1860, and A Charles R. Whitman in Kennebec county in 1890. I have not checked out the entries at the archives yet.
I have found marriage info on my grandparents, two of my aunts, and an uncle. All list different locations within Maine. Perhaps there is a Richardson - Whitman marriage record somewhere. I would certainly welcome any help or suggestion.
Leah
