He was the son of Reverend Samuel and Lydia (Austin) Wheeler, born 1 Apr. 1812 [according to Gilead town records], died 22 Feb. 1888, aged 75 years [according to his gravestone in Wheeler Cemetery, Shelburne, New Hampshire]. His wife was Elizabeth Burbank, daughter of Deacon Eliphalet and Betsey (Lary) Burbank of Gilead, born 29 Mar. 1814, died 16 Mar. 1853, aged 38 years, 11 months, 16 days, buried with her husband. They were married 31 Mar. 1841 [recorded in Gilead town records, and in Oxford County Marriage Returns].
