I am trying to find out the chronological dates of where Hannibal Hamlin, of Vice Presidency fame, was in Maine. I am doing a history of the Town of Belmont, Waldo County, Maine. In 1873, Hannibal Hamlin was Town Clerk of Belmont. Is this THE Hannibal Hamlin? Was there any others? I know that he was a lawyer in Hampden, Penobscot County, Maine, but the 1907 'Town Register' of six towns of Waldo County, including Belmont, give this record: "Dr. Hannibal Hamlin came about 1872 and practised until about 1876, when he went to Orono [Maine]. Dr. A. M. Foster, who succeeded Dr. Hamlin, remained four or five years. Dr. A. M. Wells was Dr. Foster's successor. His practice continued for several years. He was the last resident physician in Belmont." So, this calls Dr. Hannibal Hamlin a physician, though he was a lawyer in Hampden. Can anyone verify these facts for me. God bless. Isabel Morse Maresh, Belmont, Maine.
