From what I've been able to discover, my John Roberts, who m. Miriam Irish, had an older brother, Jacob who was a prominent doctor in Maine. Their father was Joseph Roberts m. Hannah Whitney. I think it must have been Joseph who served in the Rev. in some capacity. I checked out the Rev. pension records many years ago, back when I thought my source's father was Joseph Roberts, and never found one who fit the family profile that I had for him, which actually was that of John Roberts. At that time I didn't know there was a mix-up in names, so never checked for a Joseph who would have had the right profile. Perhaps something in Bangor will have some information. I doubt I'll have time to do any research on that for a while, and would appreciate your checking it for me, since you've offered. Of course, the claim that one of the ancestors served in the Revolution may not have been true, but I'd really like to know for sure.
I know all this is confusing, but I'm just beginning to sort out all the misinformation I was originally given. I'm pretty confused myself!
