Hi Lynne,
I just wanted to say thank you so much for your efforts.Did you actually see his birth recorded or is it a calculation from the Census. I have all the information on Zebediah in Dresden including a complete cemetary record where he and his wife are buried and most of their children.I have all the Census records.I even know the house that he lived in.The town report for Dresden says that he and Sarah are both from Dresden but I haven't been able to find out
where he was born or who his parents were. This is why I started looking elsewhere. In the town report dating abt. 1841. Zebediah was 29 years of age. There are a lot of years that are unaccounted for.I haven't been able to connect him with anyone.I have searched microfilm for the towns of Wiscasset , Edgecomb, Woolwich (which is where the Blair were from before they moved to Dresden) Mercer Sandy River, and a few others.I am following leads on all the Chapman's from the Dresden and Wiscasset area to see if I can find a record of his birth from any of these towns. So far I have come up empty. There is a Thomas Chapman b. 1777 from Sandy River(Mercer) who married Hannah Hatch b.1774 from Dresden. She had a son at the time of their marriage Phillip Allen b. 1805.They had a daughter Thankful b.1809. No more children are recorded born to them in either town after thankfuls birth but they are the right age to be his parents.
I have not given up the search in Maine,
but am open to all leads.I have information on some of the Chapman's from these areas that I have listed if anyone is searching this area for links please feel free to email me.All this information is proven either in Census's, Town Reports, or books.
Also if anyone wants information on the Maple Grove Cemetary in Dresden I have a complete list, but have found some conflicting information as to dates, name spellings etc.I also have a list of all the Chapman's with Stone's in the Forest Hill cemetary, however I am sure there are some buried there who don't have stones.
In conclusion, Lynne if you have any ideas on who may be Zebediah's parents, or any information on Chapman's in Maine in or around that time frame it would be greatly appreciated. It will save me some footwork
and time.Thank you again. My email address is [email protected]
Sincerely,
~Gail~
