Benjamin J. Woodard, Clarissa Willmot (Donnelly) Woodard, ME/NB, 1870-1900

I'm researching the history of a property first owned and cleared by the Woodards in Fort Fairfield, Maine and wondered why the State of Maine issued the 1875 deed to Clarissa and not Benjamin, and why in the 1880 US Census Benjamin is listed as disabled. They later moved to Corinna where all deeds were in Benjamin's name.
