Oh my God! I did not notice that there were Colfer also...
That would explain why Joseph A. (1906) looks more Colfert than Colford.
My 2 brothers Colford are the sons of Edward Colford and SUZANNE BURNS according to BMS2000.org, a much thrustable genealogical site in Quebec. It may be a mistake; it always happpened in genealogy with those look alike first names like John, James, William, etc. and mistakes in writing names.
I have found an Edward and Susan Colford in Census 1891 Blackville, Northumberland, New Brunswick. There are a James A and a John A as children of this couple. They have 10 children.
