It's been a few days and no one has picked up on this.

You could get a copy of his birth from either Portland or Maine State Archives but I would not try that yet. I did only a little looking and I think he is playing "the old name game". It was common that people used variations of their given names.

You should have better luck if you gave the people who might help you more details to work with.

And don't use THANKS IN ADVANCE! There are people who will spend hours looking though good records that you don't have or don't know about. Always post a thank you.
