Can anyone shed any light on the Samuel Barstow who was in Harpswell circa 1738? His name is on a list of early settlers in Harpswell from Wheeler's "History of Brunswick, Topsham and Harpswell." http://www.harpswellhistorical.org/history/settlers.htm
Interestingly, two children of Joseph and Mary (Randall) Barstow of Scituate, Mass. settled in Harpwell a decade or two later. They were Mary Barstow Sylvester (b. 30 MAY 1717 Scituate, Mass.) and her husband William Sylvester who had settled in the area by 1762 and Joshua Barstow (b. 4 SEP 1720 Scituate, Mass.)who was " was drowned at the Eastward' in 1763 but whose children appear in Harpswell. Joshua's wife was Elizabeth Foster of Scituate, Mass and they were married 28 FEB 1739/40 in Scituate.
I'm trying to determine the parentage of the Miriam Barstow (b. abt. 1738/32) who married Ebenezer Brookings abt 1751 in Woolwich. Many list her as the daughter of Benjamin Barstow and either his first wife Mercy Randall or his second wife Sarah Barden, but I can't find any definite source of that as fact - and frankly, it doesn't add up.
Thanks in advance for any tips on this early Barstow family of Harpswell.
