Vear family of Maine searching for origins of Rodger Vere, St-Anselme, Qué.
Hello,
I'm researching the family of Rodger Vere & Elisabeth Etcheason. My family descends from their eldest son, Peter, who was baptized on 5 Jul 1789 at Malew, Isle of Man, where his father was stationed. By 1791 Rodger and family settled in Québec, where they remained.
Our family would be delighted to learn more about this family's origins. As far as we know, no one has yet uncovered the date or location of Rodger's marriage or birth, or that of his wife.
Below I've posted some of what we do know, in case some of this rings any bells for anyone out there. It would be wonderful to find some of our relatives and exchange information & histories. I'm especially hopeful to learn whatever I can about Rodger Vere; it would make my dear Grampy SO happy to finally discover where Rodger - and thus, our last name - came from.
Thank you in advance for your interest & any assistance you may be able to provide.
Yours,
J Vear, from Maine.

*Notes:
Much of the above information (particularly Rodger's service record) was obtained by members of my immediate family from our Vir cousins in the St-Anselme area in Québec (the final resting place of Rodger, Elisabeth, Peter, and many of their numerous descendants). Our particular branch of the family (Vear) migrated down to Maine, where most of us remain to this day. I should note that we are most grateful to our Vir cousins for sharing their research with us.
