Good Morning, My ggg-grandfather John was born March 17, 1827 in Jonesboro, Washington County, Maine per the vital records of Beddington, Washington, Maine. I do not know who his biological parents were other than his father was a member of the Dodge family; I've recently learned this through a DNA test I've taken. He was adopted by Benjamin & Eliza (Weston) Dorman of Harrington, Washington, Maine prior to the census of 1830. My guess is that Ben & Eliza adopted John from a close family member, either a child (daughter) of theirs or a sibling (sister). To date, I have found no indication that any of their close relatives had ever been married to a Dodge. I have been in contact with Dodge family members through the Dodge Family Association and the concensus so far is that John most likely was born to an unmarried couple. With this in mind, I have put together a list of possible mothers. Of Ben & Eliza's own daughters, there was Lorraine Plummer (born 12/27/1808) and Elizabeth P. (born 8/5/1810). From the Dorman family, Benjamin had two sisters Lydia (12/27/1790) and Charlotte (7/20/1793). In the Weston family, Eliza had three sisters Aphia (2/1790), Frances (12/1794) and Sarah (11/1799). This list was based on the women being of child-baring age and unmarried at the time of John's birth as far as I know at this time. Further, my strongest belief is John's mother is a Weston as the Weston family was living in Jonesboro at the time, unlike the Dormans or Ben & Eliza's daughters. I have to keep all options open as they were all living within the same county. I'd appreciate feedback or insight anyone can offer. Thank you, Matthew Notify Administrator about this message?
