From what I've learned about Peter(2)'s life, I don't believe he was the same man as Peter(1).
Peter Thatcher Smith was baptized 6 June 1731, according to the records of the First Church of Falmouth.

He graduated from Harvard in 1753. He kept a school on Falmouth Neck in 1755, and in December of that year settled in Windham, Me., where he was a lay preacher. In 1762, he was ordained and became pastor at Windham. His father's journals give more details of his life:

So, at the time Peter(1) and Sarah were having children in Boston, Peter(2) was living and preaching in Windham.
