Hello Bernice, I've been working pretty steadily on this line in preparation for a trip I'll be taking to Maine next week. Would be happy to share info that I've verified although I may need to wait until I return because of time constraints. Legrange, Me is actually spelled Lagrange and is in Penobscot County. Here is a URL to a Google map of the area: http://www.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=lagrange,+me&ie=UTF8&z=11 Also on this map, you¡¦ll see that Alton, Me is just south of Lagrange on route 16 and Medford is just north of Lagrange. Both towns are significant to this line. My 3rd Great Grandfather is Hiram Rand b. abt 1806, grandson of Lazarus Rand and Elizabeth (Betsey) Clark. (I¡¦m unsure of Hiram¡¦s father¡¦s name, but I¡¦ll get to that later ƒº) Hiram along with his brother Clark and their father and mother moved to Kilmarnock, Piscataquis Cty, Maine(later known at Medford) sometime before the 1850 US Census. I found a legislative record that shows a Hiram Rand among others were approved to become Incorporated as ¡§Kilmarnock Bridge Company¡¨ in 1837¡Kso he may have been there at that time, or may have moved there to build the bridge that is referenced in their petition. I just found that Hiram, his wife Elmira and a few other family members are buried in the Alton Village Cemetery in Alton, Maine. So I will be visiting there while in Maine. I also plan to make the trip up to Medford in the hopes of finding more information regarding Hiram¡¦s father. My family history passed down from my great uncle and his wife shows Hiram¡¦s father as Nathaniel and it says he is a twin to David Rand b. 21 Jun 1787. (There are quite a few twins in this line¡Kin fact my grandfather is a twin to this uncle from whom I received this info) There is no mention of a Nathaniel in the US Census records for Kilmarnock or Medford. Although near to Hiram and his family in the 1850 census is an A C Rand and his wife Rebecca. They are both listed with ages that would fit for them to be Hiram¡¦s parents. I saw that in your post you said there may be a Niel or Anniel Rand who was a son to Lazarus. Anniel would surely fit this scenario. I last found Lazarus Rand (son of Philemon and Sarah Rand) in Woodstock, ME as a surveyor of roads there in 1815. He supposedly died in 1816 so I think its fair to say he died in Woodstock. I believe Betsey may have left Woodstock and moved to Minot, Me (perhaps with their son William) as I¡¦ve seen it mentioned that it is thought that she died in Minot. I'm having difficulty determining the exact list of the children of Lazarus Rand and Betsey Clark, but will touch on what I see as possibilities when I have more time to send you more complete info. Have you taken your trip to Maine yet? If so, I¡¦d be interested in hearing anything you may have learned and would be happy to follow-up on any lingering questions you may still have should I be in the area you are looking to explore further. Sorry for such a long post. Hope it helps you in your research. I have much more to share including some interesting historical facts. Dianne Notify Administrator about this message?
