Marsha,
In regards to proving Native American ancestory it should be noted, at least from my experience, that "Alley" is not a surname associated with the Penobscot Indians. Rather it is a very common name of "English" ancestry. Most notably in the Jonesport/Beals area of Washington County. Nor are the locations where Blanche appears in the census records linked to Penobscot Indians.
In my 25 years of research experience I have found many people who said there was Native American ancestry in their lineage, but none of those actually proved to be true.Only once did I find Native American lineage and that was in a family who did not know it existed.
The Penobscots are a beautiful, culturally amazing people, of which most of us would be proud to be associated with. However it's important for us, as genealogists, to do our best to make sure our research is accurate, in order to perserve the true history of the interactions between the Native Americans and those of other ethnic origins.
Good luck in your research
Michelle
