Good morning, We do not have an obit for Michael Hart. We checked later Lewiston Directories for him and find him until 1947. We do not have 1948, but we do have 1949 and he does not appear. We checked vital records on microfilm from 1937-1955 (one reel) for his death record without result. Either he did not stay in Maine, there was a clerical error with his death record, he moved out of Lewiston and died after 1955 or he simply was no longer listed in the directory but lived in Lewiston until after 1955. The state has a database online of deaths from 1960-1996. The period between 1956 and 1959 are not available other than by submitting to the state. This limbo period was once entered into obsolete technology and can no longer be accessed, a lesson to why digital is great but never permanent. Our suggestion would be to contact the state for a record, which they may or may not have and/or contact Lewiston Public Library for a 1948 directory to confirm his listing and perhaps an obituary. I confess our obituary file is very Portland based. Veterans records may also be of use, but there may be privacy concerns for such. If you are a next of kin you may wish to try Veterans Affairs or perhaps his branch of the military. http://lplonline.org/ Thank you for your email.
