There is one possibility for 1850, but it won't help you much. Only makes things more confusing. Check out ward 1 of Baltimore 1850, page 149b line 41. There is a John Rosetta or Rositta age 23, mariner, born Massachusetts. Could be him. Makes sense that being a mariner is how he ended up in Baltimore as a transplant. Maybe he switched to boat building after getting married. I doubt that you are going to find this John with his parents on any census.
