Searching for information about the family of James W. (N.) Blagden - b. 1822 in Alna, Maine, a "Mariner," married to Susan S. (or R.) Blagden - b. 1826 in Bath, Maine.
I had trouble finding this family prior to the 1850 Census, where they lived in Bath, Maine. At that time they had 1 child. "Agnes Blagden" - b. 1805, lived with them at that time.
In the 1860 Census Susan's middle initial has changed from "R" to "S," and they had 4 more children, the last one named Agnes is a year old. However, the original Agnes from the 1850 census is no longer living with them.
In the 1870 Census there are 6 children in the family, and "Susan Poor" born in Arrowsic, ME about 1790 resides with them.
(An interesting note: there is a Sam'l H. Blagdon family on the same 1870 census page. His wife is Mary S. and they have 4 children.)
1880 Census James' middle initial looks more like "N" than "W." The family now lives in Richmond, ME. Susan Poor no longer lives there, and some of the kids have moved out.
Here is a list of the children: James b. 1849, Julia b. 1853, Susan b. 1854, Thomas B. b. 1856, Agnes b. 1859, Anne b. 1862, and Verne b. 1866.
I found a death certificate for a James W. Blagden, born in 1822, died NYC 25 Nov 1898; however, I'm not sure if he is the same person or what happened to everyone else in the family.
