Could his first name be George? I checked all of Thomaston in 1850 and did not see a "G" or Barton/Bardon Perkins. There was one person whose name started with a G: 1850 Thomaston page 32B George Perkins 28 (close enough-ages often vary on census) ship carpenter (yours was listed as carpenter in 1860) with him was an Emeline Perkins age 25. Not sure if she might have been a first wife or a sister. They were both living in the home of Simon (age 52) and Hannah (Storer) Robinson (age 49). Not telling if they are related or just boarding. Nancy Delano age 16 was living with the same family in 1850 that she would be living with in 1860 (William Jordan family). Also in the home was a Louisa Delano age 18. They were both spelled Dillina by the census taker. I don't see Emeline Delano in that home 1850, but if the other person who posted has some fact to show she was a sister maybe they can give it to you. I think she was more likely a sister in law or other acquaintance. www.familysearch.org has a James Delano marrying an Emeline in 1845 JAMES DELANO Male Family Marriages: Spouse: EMELINE MORSE Family Marriage: 09 OCT 1845 Friendship, Knox, Maine Back to G. Barton. Since the 1860 census says he was 35 and the 1861 enlistment says he was 32 you can bet one or both of those records is wrong. Do you have the original handwritten enlistment or just a transcription? I can't tell from your post if he is buried in ME. It seems odd he would have died in ME since he died during the war. I wonder if that is correct. It he did die in ME maybe someone has the cemetery info or maybe the town hall has the death record. Did Thomaston have the marriage record?
