Hi Cheryl,
My great-grandmother is Octavia Lafreniere Leconte. She was the daughter of Zephirim and Catherine Boucher Lafreniere. I just started to research the Lafreniere line yesterday (June 6, 2004). I am confused already. I did know that Zephirim changed his name to John Ashley when he moved to Westbrook, Me. From the census it looks like his children's names were also "Americanized".
