1800 Maine Census, Kennebec and Hampshire?
I have been researching the Spencers in Maine, I noticed in the 1800 Census Daniel, Daniel Jr., Benjamin and Moses have Kennebec written off to the right. Most of the other Spencers have Berwick, Durham or Hampshire. Was there a Kennebec township before there was a county?I can find Berwick and Durham but don't know what they mean by Hampshire or Kennebec at that time period.Any help would be appreciated.
