Mary Keef/Keefe/Kief may have been a daughter of William and Clarissa (Davis) Kief who were married in 1810 in South Thomaston, Maine. They later removed to Eden (Bar Harbor), Maine. After the death of William it appears that some members of the family went to Franklin, Maine. My g-g-g grandmother Abigail A. Keef (b. abt 1812) was a daughter of William and Clarissa. She was married Aug 23 1844 in Eden, Maine to Rufus Gordon of Franklin. He was her 2nd husband. I've tried to piece together some of the children of William and Clarissa and have come up with Abigail A., Thomas (b. 1820),?Sarah (b. 1822) and John D. (b. 1823). It's very likely that Mary is another of their children.
I'm at a dead end with Clarissa Davis (b. abt 1784) at this point, but she's without a doubt connected to the Friendship Davises. William Kief (b. abt 1775 likely in Thomaston)was the son of Thomas and Abigail (Alley) Kief. Thomas Kief (b.Aug 14,1745 in North Yarmouth)was the son of Cornelius and Judith (?) McKief/McKiff who first appears in North Yarmouth, Maine where 4 children are recorded. It's suspected that Cornelius was the immigrant and was likely born abt. 1715 in Ireland.
The family left scanty records and is hard to piece together. The Alley family is a quite well documented
family from Boothbay who came from the Rowley area of Mass.
I have more about them on my website at: w3.ime.net/~thomasmoody/
Clarissa Davis Keef is buried in the Gordon Cemetery in East Franklin nearby her daughter Abigail Gordon and son-in law Rufus Gordon. She was listed as living with them in the 1860 census. William does not appear to be buried there, so it is assumed that he died at Eden.
Hope this has been of some help. I'll check some more records and see if I can connect your Mary to this family.
