1900 census - Gardiner, Kennebec Co., Maine
Enumeration District # 118, page 297A

Edwin Harwood, 47, b. Jan. 1853, England, married 9 yrs, both parents b. England, emigrated 1875, proprietor of restaurant.
Alice, wife, 25, b. May 1875, Maine, both parents b. ME
Annette, dau., 8, b. Nov. 1891, Mass.
Marian, dau., 4, b. June 1896, Mass.

I checked the Mass. Archives vital records index for the marriage of Edwin and Alice. It covers 1840 to 1910. There was nothing on them there, so I'm inclined to think they married in Maine.

You might try checking with the Gardiner, Maine city clerk for the death of Edwin and Alice. If they were living there in 1900 and died within the next 10 years, they may have died there.
