I am still searching for the parents of my Joseph D. Moody.
He shows up in 1841 Ipswich, MA, 1851 Gardiner, Kennebec Co., ME Poll Tax list, 1860 Lowell, Middlesex Co., MA census, 1861 Lowell, MA city directory, 1863 Lowell, MA marriage list, 1870 Lowell, MA census and an 1873 Middlesex County directory under the heading of "physician's", city of Lowell, race- Indian.
He is marked "Indian" in the 1861 directory, 1870 census, and 1873 directory.
I am in the process now of recieving his 1863 marriage info from Lowell in hopes that it will reveal Something regarding his Parents names.
If anyone can help out here in Cumberland Co. he was supposed to have been in this county. There is a Joseph and Hannah ____ Moody living in Brunswick from 1820 to 1850.
By 1860 they are gone, probably passed on as they were 68 and 56 respectively in the 1850 census. In the 1860 census, MY Joseph's son's Joseph and Edward are living with Daniel Moody and his wife Sabrah (Freeman) in Brunswick along with Daniel's brother William who is listed as age 28 but he is Not, he was born in Nov. 1835 as I have a record that states he married MY Joseph's daughter and in 1861 they had a son William E. Moody (probably middle name Edward). There HAS to be some connection to this Joseph Moody and Hannah in Brunswick, for all I know they may be MY Joseph's parents, however IF this is so then I can't imagine MY Joseph's daughter Susan marrying her Uncle William. UNLESS they were cousin's. That Joseph in Brunswick could be an Uncle to My Joseph. I can't find out Who That Joseph's Parents are either OR what his wife Hannah's maiden name was. If it weren't for the 1850 census and a sheer stroke of luck I would never have known that much about them.
Perhaps my Joseph was adopted, I don't know. Please Please if anyone is in Cumberland Co. and can do a look up on these folks for me, I would be SO greatful. I have no way of getting to Maine and no resources here for Properly searching the records for myself. It seems that EVERY Moody in Brunswick is related so All of them are Important.
It just that I can't find the Missing Piece to my family puzzle.
Thank you in advance for any help. I've written to Brunswick and they keep telling me that NO Joseph was ever there...well, I tell them HA! Look at the 1850 Census...who the heck was That Joseph and Hannah ____ Moody then?
Thank you for anything
