Here are the pieces to the puzzel that I have. My John Johnson was born between 1790-1795 according to census records. His middle initial is listed as L, C. or S. He married Rachel Underhill on 1 Sept 1831 in Worcester County Maryland. Rachel was born about 1815 and the daughter of Thomas Underhill and Leah Powell. John shows in the 1850 census in Worcester and is not in the 1860 census and Rachel is head of household. Living close to John in the 1850 census and in the right age bracket to be his brothers are Samuel and Purnell Johnson. An Elizabeth Johnson the right age to be his mother is also close and I up or down from Purnell. A George Johnson is also fairly close but far enough he may or may not be a brother. I highly suspect my John is a son of Samuel Johnson but if he is he had an earlier family before he married Rachel which seem extremely likely since she was 25 years younger. One reason I suspect Samuel is the samuel living close to john and because the elder Samuel is very involved with the Morris family in land deeds. I will get to the Morris connection shortly. My john johnson and Rachel had children Mary Ann born 27 Dec 1836, Edward born about 1839, and William born about 1841. Mary Ann Johnson married Luther Briddell on 6 Jul 1852 in Somerset County Maryland. Mary Ann and Luther bounced back and forth between Somerset and Worcester their entire lives causing me to wonder if my JOhn was really from Worcester or if he was indeed from Somerset. Mary Ann and Luther Briddell had children: Sarah E. John A. Rachel Mollie (married a Cox) Lorenzo William MORRIS Baldwin Samuel (my ancestor) Anything anyone might be able to add will be greatly appreciated.
