I found a lot of Adkins families in "Holloways of the Eastern Shore" by Bessie Holloway. There was a Joseph James Adkins on page 478 and a William R. Atkins on page 259. However, he was born in 1840 but the name may have been passed down in your family history. I could find no Jarmans listed in the bibliography. There is however, an extensive listing of Adkins.
I'd suggest checking through the following books at the Wicomico County Public Library's Maryland Room.
"Brief History and Genealogy of the Hearn Family" by William T. Hearne
"Fooks Family" by Herbert C. Fooks
"Spes Alit Agricolam" Tilghman and Allied Families
"Tilghman-Tillman Family" by Colonel Stephen F. Tillman
I found a lot of information about my own family in these books. They have a bibliography where you can check the Adkins family under allied families.
Good luck.
