Have any of the Kemp men been tested (who still carry the Kemp surname) who are descendants of the Quaker Kemps of Talbot County, Maryland? We need someone from that line to volunteer to test at the "Camp/Kemp" surname project at FamilyTreeDNA. If someone has been tested elsewhere, I believe that results can be transferred to FTDNA. We have had spectacular results from the testing of Kemps from Baltimore MD, Australia, England and Cork city, Ireland. All four of these men matched each other - three exactly and the fourth with only a slight variation. The results confirm written records of the Maryland and English families and made it possible for the Australian family to link their ancestor to Cork city, in the absence of written records. The Baltimore MD Kemps and Talbot Co. Kemps had some interesting interactions that lead me to believe that they might be related: 1. There were land transfers between the two families. 2. The widow and children of the Cork family came directly to Baltimore in 1819 and one son went to Trappe in Talbot Co. to teach in a primary school for the next 30 years. 3. Another son of the Cork family died in Talbot Co. in 1865 at "Jackson Hill" (unknown) which was called "the Kemp estate" in a family record. This son had lived in Baltimore continuously for 65 years, was still listed in the Baltimore city directory months before his death and all of his children lived in Baltimore. The only Kemps wealthy enough to have an "estate" were the Quaker Kemps. The more test volunteers we can get, the better our chances of putting these various Kemp families together. We only need one man from this line - if cost is a problem for someone who would volunteer otherwise, perhaps several people who are also interested in the results would be willing to donate to a fund to cover the cost of one test. There are already several other Kemps in the Camp/Kemp project who have not matched with our four volunteers. If yours don't match our Irish bunch, maybe one of these others will. Many thanks, Teresa Notify Administrator about this message?
