As it seems the Linthicum surname Yahoo group has either become very exclusive or the moderator got mad and took his reference books home, I have elected to introduce a new group to Yahoo to cover that branch of the Linthicum family that I am most interested in: the Linthicums that moved from Talbot County, Maryland to Guilford County, NC in the late 1770’s. It is widely held that this Linthicum was Richard Linthicum and that he had married a Mary Sherwood from Talbot County and that these Linthicums were closely aligned with the Sherwoods as Daniel Sherwood III had married a Frances Sherwood. Thus, I see some value in including the Sherwood searcher folks too, as these family alliances are a key part of the early history of these two families in Talbot and Guilford Counties. I also realize there is a Sherwood Yahoo group and think that by participating in both groups, an individual researching descendents from these lines will have the best of both worlds. I hope we’ll be able to hash all of this out, as some of this information does not agree with one of the most popular and readily available references for Linthicum genealogists, Matilda Badger’s, “The Genealogy of the Linthicum and Allied Families.”
Rather than try to resolve everything in the first week, just let me say that moderating this group will be 100% a learning experience for me and that if you elect to join, you will contribute freely and be understanding if everything isn’t slick and professional and doesn’t happen quite as fast as you think it should. I’ll do my best to make it worth all of our efforts.
If you click on the link below or copy and paste it into your browser, you should be taken to the group site where you will be underwhelmed by the total nothingness of a brand new group. You can cure this problem by clicking on the "join" button and chatting us up a bit.
Hope to hear from you
Terry L. Linthicum of the Southern Indiana Linthicums by way of NC and KY
