As told by Thomas Howard Farrell (died 1998)
My grandfather, Thomas Howard Farrell, told me about his mother and father. His mother, Ruth Mattingly, was born in St. Mary's County, Maryland. She worked as a receptionist in a dentist or doctor's office in Washington, D.C. The doctor/dentist's name was Dr. Sorrell (see 1920 census, where she is listed as companion to Sorrell family).
I believe she lived in Washington when she met Thomas Carroll Farrell, who would become her first husband--father of Thomas Howard Farrell.
