Handy Book says Montgomery Co., MD, was formed in 1776 from Frederick Co., which was formed in 1748 from Prince George's. Prince George's was formed in 1695 from Charles & Calvert, original counties.
I do not know of any connection, but here are some earlier BROWN records, from Prince George's Co., MD, Indexes of Church Registers, Queen Anne Parish, BROWN:
