Early 19th century Bakers in Baltimore
I have hit a brick wall.My 4x great grandmother was born in Baltimore around 1822.She was born Virginia Ann Baker.I know her mother's name was Elizabeth.Elizabeth was listed as a widow in the 1822/23 city directory.14 Apr 1825, Elizabeth Baker married John DeGaus (DeGarris) at East Baltimore Station Methodist Episcopal Church. They had three children: Emma, William and James.I found a record of them leaving Baltimore in 1838, and by 1840 Elizabeth is head of the household at Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Indiana.I have been unable to locate her from that census until 1870, when she was living with her daughter Virginia and her husband John L. Pullen in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky.Elizabeth listed her birthplace as Maryland, and that she was born around 1788.
I have searched all the records I could find online (at ancestry, familysearch and the MD archives) and can't seem to find anything useful to determine who Elizabeth's husband was.Unfortunately, I have found no death record for Virginia Baker Pullen, which may have listed her father's name.
Can anyone give me some suggestions as to where to focus my search now?Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Grant A. Van Vranken
