White family, National Pike, MD and PA
I am trying to identify the parents and any other family of Perry G White (abt 1811-1886)
Most of my documentation puts his birth in Maryland, possibly Frederick. However, his obituary indicates he was born and raised in Somerset County, PA. I know he lived in and around Uniontown, PA and that he worked most of his life on the National Pike. All of these places fall along the National Pike, which Perry had worked to build and later run a toll gate. I found him on Census records from 1840-1880, but no mention of any parents or siblings anywhere...
I searched the 1820 US Census for locations in MD and PA for anyone named White with a white male child of an appropriate age for the time.I did find the following:
1820 Census– Perry would have been 7-9 years
Frederick, MD
Addison White, 26-44 years 2 white males under 10 years
Elijah White, 26-44 years 2 white males under 10 years
John White, 45+ years 1 white male under 10 years
Wallis White, 45+ years 1 white male under 10 years
Somerset County, PA
Elijah White, 26-44 years 1 white male under 10 years
James White, 45+ years 1 white male under 10 years'
I am hoping someone with a connection to any of these men may be able to help me confirm or eliminate any of them as the potential father of Perry White.
