Dear Mr. EdgarDavis:
I am late in answering your GenForum message #16515 to me of Nov. 12, 2009.I apologize for my oversite.I suppose I did not expect to receive your nessage on the MD Forum & don't reccall.I have a copy of Index to Loudoun County Wills. I recetly noticed Section 3, Deeds Partly Proved included reference to 4 William, Howell & sons,Jesse, Abner and Abel Howell.I am not aware that I have any Howell Ancestors, however when I opened I found written in long hand on the notice that Benjamin Davis was b. 1712 and his son Benjamin was b. several years later and d. 1802 born who m. Hannah Davis. They had 2 sons Howell,1759-1837] and Abel {1764-1847 and 4 daughters.I posted the Will of Benjamin Davis on Loudoun Co., GenForum at message 1499. Benjamin & Hannah Davis had been m.several years at the time.Benjamin 1 apparently d. in the late 1750's assuming I have the right one.In 1761 Benjamin, Hannah and Abel I Davis obtained a tri party lifetime lease on 100 acres and moved to Loudoun Co. Both Howell & Abel were b. in MD which may mean they were living in Montgomery Co. vs, Worcester Co. The third party to the lease was Abel Ischabald Davis according the KGrimes, author of a several WorldConnect Projects on the Davis family.
I believe the Davis family may have been in MA before heading south. Many of the names of Davis children are found in the John Davis site.
Benjamin d. in early May 1803 and was buried in the North Fork Baptist Cem in Loudoun Co. Some evidence suggests the family were Quakers but that changed before his death. I cannot find Hannah's DOD or where she is buried.
Abel Davis my ancestor moved to Monongalia Co., VA where he purchased 9 acres by 1795. He had been trained as a cooper. He was also a JP, Road Spt. and dabbled in personal suretyship. He m. Mary Huffman d/o John Huffman of Berks Co., PA a Rev. War Vet who d. in Loudoun Co. in 1792. He was b. in 1741 about a month after his parnets arrived in Philadelphia. About 1818 Abel sold his holdings and moved to Salem Twp., Champaign Do., OH where m. d mid decade and he m. Catherine Kirkwood in 1828. His chilren headed West and many settled in White Co., IN.He and his son John 1800-1880 joined the rest of the family in White Co. by 1837.Abel d. in 1847 and we believe was buried on the farm of Issac and Mary (Phillips) Davis.Several members of the family participated in the Civil War and Joseph Weldon Davis was a LT in his Brothers Co. of IVI. He contracted severe dysentery and d. in 1879 in Butler Co., KS. I have followed the live of Peter Campbell Davis and believe they are related to my Davis tribe.
My mother, Ruth Frances Davis was the d/o Professor John Davis b in Wolcott, White Co., IN m. Lily May Reed whose family danced in Loudoun & Berkeley Cos. Please let me know if we are related and thank you from the bottom of my heart for the Davis data you have provided. If you have questions please ask.
