William Smute/Smoot was in Southern Maryland in the 1640's.He was a Boatwright with a ship-building facility there. His son, Thomas Smoote, is listed in "Settlers of Maryland 1679-1783" (Consolidated Edition)as having 160 acres called "Smoote's Chance" in Charles County on 15 April 1687.The rest of the family lived in Charles or St. Mary's Counties.
The Hanson, Dent, Hungerford, Barton, Stoddard and Batten families are all intermarried with the Smoot family. So I'm looking for information on all for the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, and service as jurors, judges, sheriffs, etc.
