Jacob Root Washington Co., MD wife identifed

After numerous postings about the wife of Jacob Root of Frederick County/ Washington County, MD ( d. bef 17 Dec 1805) being Barbara Hauser/ Hauses we finally have a SOURCE for her CORRECT maiden surname.
Barbara was the daughter of Mathias Stauffer and Anna Oberholtzer of Lancaster County, PA. ( Lancaster County, PA Deed Book PP:338-339). In this deed Jacob Root and wife Barbara release their interest in the land of Mathias Stouffer (sic), deceased, to brother Christian Stouffer.
The children listed on the deed with the surname spelling of Stouffer were:
Peter, Jacob, Henry, Daniel, Samuel, Mathias, Susannah, Esther Noonamacher( sic Nunamacher), wife of Nicholas and Barbara Root, with husband Jacob Root.
The initials used by Jacob Root on the Lancaster deed are identical to the initials used on a Frederick County, MD deed from Jacob Root to Adam Shup (Liber M:103-105)dated 27 March 1769.

Mathias Stauffer, born circa 1704 Mannheim, Germany, was the son of Christian Stauffer, born circa 1680, of Salford, Phildelphia County, PA. Christian left a will ( Will Book E:335) dated Feb 1734. Christian Stauffer was the immigrant ancestor, arriving in the US circa 1718.

The marriage of Anna Oberholtzer and Mathias Stauffer is proved by Philadelphia County, PA Deed H12:1359, 30 July 1756. Mathias Stauffer of Lancaster, yeoman, and wife Anna, daughter of the deceased Jacob Oberholtzer of Franconia, Phildelphia County, Pa.

The Stauffer family was Mennonite, which accounts for the lack of church records in Montgomery and Lancaster counties.

Issac Hauser of Frederick County/ Washington County, Maryland was a Mennonite church minister and it would appear that the only family contact was that the Root and Hauser land bordered one another and that they shared the same faith.
