Maryland/Virginia Burroughs Family DNA Project

Hi All -

The Burroughs Family DNA project started by Steve Waring (see posts elsewhere on this forum) has identified so far nine (9) distinct, unrelated Burroughs families! This means that many us us are NOT related despite our common surname. For this reason it is more critical than ever for all males of the surname Burroughs (or similar) to participate in the Burroughs Family DNA project at Family Tree DNA. In particular, The so-far distinct Virginia Burroughs family is trying to find links to those from other areas of the country. Traditional research has shown a possible link to the sizable Burroughs family from Southern Maryland, but thus far no one from that lineage has elected to participate in the DNA study. If you or a relative/friend is a Burroughs-surnamed male whose family origin is Maryland or Virginia, I urge you to contact Steve Waring, project leader of the Burroughs DNA project, to obtain more information and a simple test kit (no blood test is necessary!). Your participation could save thousands of hours of traditional genealogical research in a single stroke. Thank you!
