Hi Cousin!

Didn't realize you had so much Magruder info...maybe you can help me out with something.

But first, your questions.

I have a John Rezin Magruder (1775-1829) m. Susannah M. Nelson Boteler (1777-1861) on March 21, 1799 in Frederick Co., MD., with sons Elias and Hezekiah Magruder.

I have John Rezin Magruder as son to the Edward M. and Mary Magruder you mention. I have seen him listed with both Samuel Magruder and Ann Claggett (per your description) and I have seen him listed with Samuel Brewer Magruder and Rebecca Magruder. Neither of these seems likely because I have both of these families in the 1776 Maryland Census (arguably) and neither lists a "John" as a son. In fact, the only family to list a John Magruder at the right age for John Rezin's birth, is Edward M. Magruder and Mary ????.

My information matches yours for this first Edward: son of John and Jane Offutt Magruder; grandson of Ninian and Elizabeth Brewer ("Ninian" should be the correct spelling, after Ninian Beall, and I did not have "Beall" for a middle name but can add it if you are sure.) Magruder; great-grandson of Samuel Magruder and Sarah Beall; gr-gr-grandson of Alexander the Immigrant and Margaret Braithwaite.

I did have the 2nd Hawkins marriage for Alexander, however, I did not have any grand-daughter named Sarah after her. Is she the daughter of Alexander II or Nathaniel Magruder?

I have Thomas Jefferson Magruder (1823-????) m. Susan Ann Peyton Boteler but have no children for them. I will add Lyttleton Maqruder. I do not have any parent information for Susan Ann Peyton Boteler either, sorry to say. Are you certain about the first name? I could have it mis-spelled, I suppose. Is this your relative?

My lineage is through Edward Magruder and his 2nd wife, Anne Hellen, and their son Jesse Hellen Magruder. I have Edward's parents as Haswell and Charity Beall Magruder as well.

Perhaps you can help me out from here, as I have found nothing but confusion from the Magruder Forum on this site on the matter.

You have Haswell listed as son of Samuel Wade Magruder & Jane Haswell, son of Samuel II and Eleanor Wade, son of Samuel Magruder and Sarah Beall, son of Alexander and Margaret Braithwaite.

I am not completely convinced or verified, however, on Haswell's parents. Let me explain:

I have a Samuel Wade Magruder (1728-1792) m. Lucy Beall in the 1776 Census for Maryland. He is too young to be Haswell's father (only 8 years older). Other than that listing, I have conflicting reports from other family trees, forum's, etc.

I had one report that his name was "Samuel Wade Magruder III" but could not get any other information to verify that, such as who is Samuel Wade I and Samuel Wade II. Plus, I found both Samuel Wade and a Samuel III living at the same time in the Census, so they couldn't be the same.

Am I missing a "Samuel Wade Magruder", son to Samuel Magruder II and Eleanor Wade, who is the father of BOTH Samuel Wade Magruder (Jr. or II) AND Haswell Magruder? Currently, that is the only way I can see this all working out correctly but I have nothing to back it up with. Jane Haswell I have as Haswell's mother because of the name...but I currently have her as "husband unknown" since I can't seem to get any information to verify the relationships. (I also have a small list of Magruder's I can't currently place in families but who appear in the 1776 Maryland Census and the DAR Patriot Index for Maryland.)

In any case, I hope some of my information helps you out. I have more on the people I have listed for you, as well as hundreds of other Magruder's, MacGregor's, and a bunch of other names so far. I too have just recently discovered the lines that pioneered to Georgia, moving on to KY, MO, MS, and TX from there, so I know what you mean. :)
