BARNES' Balto. Co. Families: See BENNETT articles by Archibald BENNETT & John Bennett BODDIE, in "William & Mary Quarterly." Robert BENNETT of Wiveliscombe/Wilscombe, Somerset, will pr. 1603, may have been father of Edward BENNETT, et al. One Richard BENNETT, of St. Bart., London, m. Judith, & d. 1626, VA. They had several children bpt. St. Mary Woolchurch Haw, London, but the sons Richard and Edward died young, 1616 & 1619.
Richard BENNETT, d. 1676, was in a company organized to transport settlers to Virginia in 1620 by Edward BENNETT. Robert BENNETT went to Virginia and was soon killed by Indians. Richard BENNETT became an important leader in Virginia and Maryland, m. Ann ( ), wid/o John UTIE. Son Richard (1639-1667), m. Henrietta Maria NEALE (1647 - 1697). Richard drowned leaving a wealthy only son, Richard BENNETT, Queen Anne Co., will 26 S 1749, pr. 20 Oct. 1749. The abstract is nearly twelve typed pages long!
