I am trying to determine the names of the children of Selinah Renshaw and Jonas Bailey/Baylis. Below is a summary of information I know about the couple so far. Selinah Renshaw was born 3 Apr 1752 in Baltimore Co., MD to Thomas Renshaw and Frances Clark(e). The "Maryland Marriages, 1778-1800" compiled by Robert Barnes has the following on page 8: Bailey, Jones, 19 Dec. 1781, Salinah Renshaw, 3 HA-5" A different record stated that his name was James Bailey. I also found the following entries: Concerning the estate of Selinah's father, Thomas Renshaw who died in 1774. Orphans Courts Proceedings 1778-1800 .... Peden listed "Jonas Baylis agst. Thomas Renshaw and Samuel Webster (of Samuel) to show cause as to why the estate of Thomas Renshaw had not been fully settled." Baltimore Co., MD Deed Book WG - U, pg. 371-373: Jonas Bayles to David Shields, 20 April 1784. At the end of the record it reads. "...Also came Selinah the wife of the said Jonas Bayles..." Given the Orphans Court Record and this statement, I believe that Selinah's husband's name was Jonas Bayles or Baylis and not Jonas or James Bailey. If this is true, then Jonas was baptized 14 Apr 1754 in Morristown, Morris, NY and he was the son of Samuel Baylis/Bayless and Phoebe Platt of Long Island, Queens, New York and later of Harford Co., MD. I found an 1810 census for Jonas Baylis in Havre de Grace, Harford, Maryland. His household consisted of 1 male 0-10 2 males 10-16 2 males 16-26 1 male 26-45 1 male 45 & up 1 female 0-10 1 female 10-16 1 female 16-26 1 female 45 & up 3 other persons in household I've done quite a bit of research in Harford and Baltimore Counties, MD, but haven't been able to identify the names of their children. Does anyone researching the Baylis lines descend from Jonas Baylis and wife Selinah Renshaw or know who their children might be? I'm basically trying to fill in some gaps on the Renshaw lineage so any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you, Victoria Notify Administrator about this message?
