Abraham MILLER migrated to Centre County,PA from Frederick, MD probably about 1803. His 1808 will from Centre County Will Book A, p. 55 mentions his wife Margaret and children George, John, Mary wife of Dr. SHOOK, Eve Troughtman (TROUTMAN?), and Catrina, Sussey and Sally who are children of Jacob HOLTER (his grandchildren), also mentioned is Magdalena CRAFFORD, but relationship is not defined. Executor: Michael Shank. Witnesses: Michael Shenk, Frederick Shenk.
Jacob Holter, my ggg-grandfather, was married to Abraham's daughter Susanna by as early as 1801 when they are recorded as baptismal sponsors in Frederick Lutheran Church records (Jacob's family's church). However, their marriage cannot be found in the Lutheran Church records and I am assuming that they were married wherever her family went to church. When they moved to Centre County they associated with families who were German-speaking Mennonites, such as the Schencks. Susanna died in 1805, leaving the two daughters mentioned in her father's will. The Holter family may have been associated with the Moravian community.
Wondering if anyone has run across this Miller family in the Frederick area? I would like to narrow my search geographically since Miller is a fairly common name.
