Beverly, Thank you for responding to my email. Could your gr.gr.gr grandmother, Millicent Lum have been Millicent Amelia Lum? I ask this because I can only find a John Cochran who married Amelia Lum on 8 Feb 1806 in Cecil County. I have found that the women in James Hyland's family like to confuse "us" researchers by using both their given and middle names at different times. For example I have a Frances Araminta Love whose mother was Kesiah Hyland and when she first married she went by Araminta Love married to Thomas Whaland. Then she re-married she went by Mrs. Frances Araminta Whaland to Samuel Chaires. In some census records she is Frances and other times she is Araminta. Could the same be true with your Millicent Lum? Since there were so many John and Nicolas Hyland's in each generation, I am wondering if James Hyland was possibly John James Hyland or some other given name and to distinguish himself he went by James, but I have never been able to prove this.
