My branch of the Ewing family seems to have appreared out of nowhere in Mercersburg (Present-day Franklin County), PA, in the 1760s. My gggggrandfather, William Ewing, was married to Eleanor Thompson, possibly in Ireland or in Franklin County - no one seems to know - about 1760. Their children were Adam, Isabella, John, Robert, James and Alexander. Robert was christened at Upper West Conococheague Presbyterian Church, Mercersburg, Franklin Co., PA, on 27 May 1770. The family moved to southern Indiana County in the early 1770s, and the parents died about 1774. They were buried at Ebenezer Cemetery, Conemaugh Twp., Lewisville, PA.
I have been told that some of the Cecil County, MD, Ewings may have been cousins to William. I have no info on whether he had other siblings here, but at that time it was somewhat unusual for a single family member to travel to the Colonies. For all we know, he may even have been born here.
If anyone has information on William and Eleanor, I would certainly appreciate having it.
