Mr Higgins, I was going through some old emails and realized that I never thanked you for your post. Merle and Margaret were my grandparents. Margaret's mother was an Overhaoultzer (sp). Yes, her father Francis Crouse worked at the grain and feed store. Merle Conover's parents owned the farm on Conover Road in Harney. My father 'Jimmy' used to tell me stories of his summers on his grandparents farm. They also used to run a rock quarry near the farm (i believe on the same road). My father passed in 1996 - he would be 76 years old now. Merle also had an uncle named Martin Luther Valentine, who lived to be 95 years old. He passed in the late '80's I believe, and is buried in the church cemetary in Piney Creek. Martin Luther was the reason my grandparents moved to NJ....to work for the DuPont Company where Martin Luther was manager. I would love to know who owns the property on Conover Road.....the homestead was sold in the late 40's or early 50's. There was supposed to be a trailer park of some type that was going to occupy the property, but I don't think it ever happened. I traveled down there in '92 to visit a friend in Gettysburg College and made the drive to Conover Road, and I believe the land was still barren. Thanks again! J.J.
