I got Spencer's material via mail. It was very generous of him to send it, but now that I have gone through it I find nothing that I can hang my hat on. I'm thinking that Robert and John descended from the English-born Abel Brown of AA County Co (1600s) rather than the Lutherans of German connection who arrived in the 1700s.

I'll gladly take either if something concrete shows up. Whoever Robert's and John Brown's father was, he was around in 1770-80 having sons, in Carroll, Frederick, or AA Co. Robert MAY have been the Robert who married Sarah Elder in Baltimore County, 1803. I say this because several MD Elders left for the same area in Ohio that Robert did during the early 1800s. All best, Jim Brown
