CUBBAGE, Philip/Phillip b. Dec. 27 1781, Caroline Co., MD. (Wondering if he is related to the Cubbages from Kent Co., Delaware.) Searching for his ancestors. Family stories say his father had an estate in Caroline Co., but no name for him. Phillip went from Canonsburg, PA to Marietta, Washington, OH, m. Betsey (Elizabeth?) Newton in 1804. Their children; Almura m. Robert Safford, Elizabeth m. Joseph Kerr, John Price m. Caroline Questel, William m. 1826 Nancy Safford. Phillip left Marietta and went down river to Gallia Co., Clay Twp., OH. He married his second wife, Charity Catherine Jeffers/Jefferies, in Alleghany, PA. Their children; Andrew b. 1827, m. Louvina Cox, Sarah Ann b. 1829, Amanda b. 1832 m. William Riggs, and Mary Katherine b. 1834 m. Archelaus Pierce. Phillip died May 6, 1860, Gallia Co., Clay Twp., OH. He is buried in Clay Chapel Cemetery, just up river from Eureka, OH, with other Cubbage family members.
