Well, since I originally posted this e-mail, I've had a few of the details ironed out, so here's the edited version including changes: My ggmother was Fannie Mae (maiden name uncertain; possibly either Dove or Franklin), b. 1863 d. 1956. She married Richard William (or William Richard) King. [changes: According to my mother, Fannie Mae was definitely a Dove and her husband's name was William Earl, not Richard] My ggggmother (Fannie Mae's gmother, in case this is getting as confusing for you as it is for me!) was full-blooded Cherokee, probably from NC. My mother remembers seeing a tintype of her wearing long braids and traditional dress when she visited my ggmother). [verified - unchanged] Fannie Mae had five brothers and three sisters. I have the names for four of the brothers: Edwin, Earl, Ralph, and William; the fifth brother's name may have been John. The sisters were Alice, Sadie, and Abby. [incorrect, see next] Fannie Mae had only one sibling, a twin sister who died young (twenties?), the names above are actually her children, who I now have all the names and spellings for (in no particular order): Alice, Sadie, Abbey, Minnie Mae, Edwin, Earl (d. 2000-2001), Ralph William, Richard (Dick), and Edward. Fannie Mae also had a daughter named Alice, who I know very little about, except that she had a daughter (Mary?) and lived in Laurel, Maryland. [correct, with additional info below] I did find out that Alice died sometime between 1995 and 1999 at Solomon's Island (her daughter is still living somewhere in Charles County). My gmother was Minnie Mae King, born in Calvert Co., MD. Because of her Cherokee lineage, she was listed as "colored" on her birth certificate. [verified - correct with additoinal info below] Minnie Mae's dates are b. 1910 d. 1952. and she lived in Lothian, MD. Minnie Mae married Irving Robert King (b. 1896 d. 1973) and they lived in Lothian, Md. King is my gmother's maiden name; my gfather was adopted by her family. He was orphaned, along with a brother, after his parents died from smallpox (either in Calvert or Charles Co.). The brother's given name may possibly have been Fred and he may still be living in Baltimore. I do not know whether "Irving Robert" was the name given him by his birth parents or by the Kings. [mostly correct - although Irving did not have a middle name. I did verify that Irving's birth parents did live on a farm in the outlying area of Calvert County] My gfather was a fiddle player and was often referred to as "Feeny" (not sure of the spelling) because of an incident related to his fiddle-playing. [verified, as much as a "family story" can be! :)] Minnie Mae and Irving had at least four daughters: Betty Lou, Mary (referred to as May or Mae), Martha, and Doris Marie (my mother), and a son named Irwin or Irving. [see changes below] Minnie Mae and Irving's children are (in birth order): Ellen, Irving Jr. (living?), Elizabeth May, Betty Lou (living), Martha Ellen, and Doris Marie (my mother).
