Hi,
I am hoping that someone out there can finaly help me with my DUNNING family that that appears in Washington, DC in the early 1800s.
It appears now that my ancestor, George A. DUNNING, b. abt. 1821, and was buried here on 25 Jun 1875, was one of the children born to John DUNNING that was buried here 7 Jul 1830. It appears his wife's name was Mary (LNU) who was buried here also, 17 Sep 1828. It seems that they had 4 other children, if I am right, buried here, too.
I know that George A. DUNNING was married to Elizabeth STEINHAGAN abt. 1840. But, I have not found a marriage record for them. Elizabeth STEINHAGAN'S parents were Christopher STEINHAGAN, b. abt. 1788 in Holland and died bef. 1860 in around the DC & Baltimore MD area. Christopher's wife's name was Margaret (LNU), b. abt. 1800 in Maryland and she died abt. 1860, as I do not find her in the censuses after 1850, also.
Geo. A. DUNNING & Elizabeth STEINHAGAN'S son, Samuel Lewis DUNNING was my GG-grandfather. He married Anna Lee CARDOZO, 12 Oct 1882 in DC. She was b.
Feb 1864, Norfolk, VA and d. 25 Mar 1925, Wash. DC. She was the dau. of Charles Pembrook CARDOZO and Ann M. SUMPTER of Lynchburg, VA who moved to DC after the Civil War. Charles and Anna are buried in the Glenwood Cem. in DC.
Does anyone out there know who or what DUNNING family that John DUNNING and his wife, Mary who died and were buried in the Congressional Cemetery were connected to?
Any help will be appreciated. And I will gladly exchange my genealogy information with anyone out there that can help or connects with me.
