Hello,
I am trying to trace the ancestry of Stephen Elder, born about 1800.
It appears that the Elder family came to York Co. prior to 1800 - possibly from Lancaster Co. I believe this line to be of the Paxtang Elder line, but I am not certain, as the 1860 census lists his father as from MD. Here is what I have.
Stephen Elder was a brother of James Elder of Chanceford Twp, York County. James married Sarah Adams) Stephen Listed in James's Will.
Stephen Elder (c1800-1877) was first married to Anna Maria Eaton ( c 1800-). Stephen and Mary were divorced in 1850 and he remarried (another Mary) and died in Carroll Co., MD.
Stephen was a brother of James Elder. James married Sarah Adams. James died in Chanceford Twp, York Co., PA in 1859. He left $1.00 to his brother Stephen in his will.
Stephen and his first wife had several children.

I beleive he died in in 1877.
I am descended from Stephens son, Jeremiah Elder, and his first wife: Jane M (Hughes) Elder, who later relocated to Baltimore MD. This family also split and Jane and her children went to marietta Lancaster county, and Jeremiah, a Shoemaker by trade went remarried a woman named Josephine Chamberline, and lived and died in Baltimore.
