Sometimes I help others with their family mysteries. I realized that what I found in the process could be helpful to someone else, even though there was no apparent connection to what I was doing. It is very easy to copy and paste. A lot of folks have records they need to share with others. That one little bit of information could be just the spark that ignites a fire of revelations. I know. What others did helped me. In this particular case I was looking for the line for a Jas Williams and Harriet that appeared in the 1860 census of Laurens, SC. He was with a family -- Gowan, I think, that was connected to the McWilliams. A distant cousin of mine by the name of Williams is descended from that Williams family. He participated in the dna project and someone by the name of McWilliams popped up. Of course, that could go way, way back -- even before America. We subsequently learned that the Jas Williams was also known as Joseph Williams or Joseph Pinkney Williams. Harriet was Harriet Jones. They were in Anderson County, SC. I think Joseph's father was probably the Joseph W. Williams of Anderson County. To me, everything pointed toward Greenville County, SC, as their place of origin. I suspect some of the McWilliams dropped the Mc and just went by Williams, don't you? Posting information is another way of going fishing, isn't it? You give and it comes back to you. Thanks on behalf of others for whatever you share. Bobby Notify Administrator about this message?
